Born in Scotland, schooled in England and eventually settling in Germany in the 1980s, I first built a career in film and television, working worldwide as an editor, director, and producer. After decades in the industry, I felt ready for a new challenge and returned to a long-held passion: agriculture.
In 2018 I discovered quinoa – a gluten-free, protein-rich plant with a remarkable ability to thrive in different climates and soils. With climate change reshaping our world, I became convinced that quinoa is truly a crop of the future, with a potential still waiting to be unlocked.
With no farming experience, I learned through trial and error. (Still learning).
Along the way I connected with pioneers and innovators in allergy-free, nutritious foods whose encouragement helped shape my journey.
Seven years on, the journey is still a quest. I have explored how the entire plant can be used – from developing products from its leaves to producing a glucose-based syrup from its seeds. Enhancing it´s flavour through malting, curing and roasting, and even creating a 100% quinoa alcohol based dry gin.
Each step has revealed quinoa’s increasing potential.
My mission remains simple: to explore what is possible with quinoa and to inspire others with its potential.
